Design Services for Startups (and everyone else too!)

Starting a new idea from scratch is never an easy thing to do.

One of the biggest hurdles to overcome is thinking about design and image. As your idea becomes more tangible you start asking questions about elements of  your soon-to-be brand and how they integrate with your vision:

  • what colors should I use?
  • what should my tag line be?
  • how does this make people feel?
  • do I have a logo?
  • what will I need for collateral?

While all of the above questions are important, it is equally important that you don’t pigeon hole your idea or create artificial obstacles to your progress. As a ‘new idea’ you need to consistently move forward and risk failure as you relentlessly search for success.

To help with the design element, I’ve collected a variety of services that can really free up some budget and expose you to some additional options in the concept phase of your idea.

[stextbox id=”info”]NOTE: The below services provide design options. They do not provide brand strategy. It is critical that the two elements are not confused.[/stextbox]

Any one of the services below can bring an incredible variety to your project for $100 to $500 (you can go higher, but work within your budget.)

If you are looking for something more than a logo or fancy graphic, Zooppa may be what you are looking for. Zooppa provides a competitive marketplace where you can let all sorts of people compete to make entire commercials and more. Competitions on Zooppa bring in an entirely different class of competition and talent, as some of the competitions have gone over $25,000 in prize money.

Sharing Your New Look

If you go out and use one of these service you would be doing yourself a great disservice if you didn’t think about how you will share it. Your new logo and brand can be spread across a wide range of materials including business cards, printed collateral, and even virtual flyers.

Two of the services I have used to get projects out the door are Moo Cards (which offer unique slim business cards and stickers) and vFlyer (which offers single page virtual flyers that can be used for special events, promotional flyers, etc.)

What services do you use to share your brand with the world?

  1. Thank you for highlighting the importance of not confusing design options with brand strategy. So many customers don’t differentiate between these. They are both essential elements in coming up with a design that works and a brand that becomes memorable and trusted.
